Anchor Bay Drive Bridge Replacement

Summary: With approximately 130,000 bridges rated structurally deficient or functionally obsolete in the United States, the demand for economical, long lasting bridge designs will continue to grow. The Con-Struct Bridge system, used for the Anchor Bay Drive Bridge Replacement, was developed to provide the industry an economical bridge option that offers accelerated bridge construction and a longer expected life span, without compromising safety. Hot-dip galvanizing was used for the steel tub girders due to its proven in-field performance, corrosion protection and longevity.

Summary: The bridge scuppers, walkways, railings, signposts and 700 miles of metal strand stay cables providing essential support to the bridge were all made from galvanized steel. Not only was galvanizing more cost-effective, but it also eliminated ongoing maintenance costs associated with traditional paint options. Two Valmont庐 Coatings companies, American Galvanizing and Empire Galvanizing, supplied 50 tons of galvanized rebar for the project, along with galvanized steel bridge scuppers, signposts and walkway railings.

Morningside Pedestrian Bridge

Summary: Arcing for more than a half-mile over one of the busiest highways in Canada, the Morningside Pedestrian Bridge provides cyclists and pedestrians access to the Trans Canada Trail between Cambridge and Kitchener in Ontario. The arching metallic spine of the bridge reaches 25 feet at its highest point, allowing more than 50,000 motorists to pass underneath on Highway 401 each day. Utilizing hot-dip galvanized steel for the structural elements of the bridge will protect the structure from the unsightly and potentially hazardous effects of corrosion, while the zinc coating will remain maintenance-free for decades.
