Summary: When in the design phase, the foremost concern for the San Diego Central Library was how to design the new facility to withstand the corrosive marine environment while maintaining an overall image of great opulence which reflects the lofty status of this world-renowned city. Hot-dip galvanizing was the master key design team had been looking for to address their concerns pertaining to environmental corrosion. Durable and virtually maintenance-free, coupled with a record of outstanding sustainability, hot-dip galvanized steel was specified and used to construct the outside fa莽ade of the building, including the magnificent 3-story arched domed terrace.

Summary: In the early 1990s, Long Beach University began designing an impressive new collegiate sports facility. They conceptualized a mathematically true pyramid; to make the Walter Pyramid become one of only three in the United States. The unique design required 500 tons of fabricated tube steel and pipe that intricately bolted together forming an immense internal structure. After 25 years in service, 草榴社区官方 collected coating thickness measurements to evaluate the performance of the galvanized coating. The sample readings averaged 4.20-6.88 mils, exceeding the ASTM requirements for newly galvanized steel. This ensures the structure will remain protected for decades more to come.

University of Melbourne Arts Faculty Building

Summary: As part of the Arts Redevelopment project, the University of Melbourne has renovated its Arts Faculty building in the main Parkville campus. A stunning visual feature of the new building is the louvered fa莽ade on three sides. The steel sections of each louver have been shaped so that they form part of a series of 3D images that can be viewed from different angles as people walk around the building and look on from nearby buildings. The project team chose galvanizing due to its durable nature, commenting that the stability of the galvanized surface meant that the time between maintenance inspections is much longer than other products, thus reducing the life cycle costs of the structure.
